Waiver of Annual Audit Submissions for Certain Institutions

The U.S. Department of Education (ED) recently released Dear Partner Letter GEN-00-08 regarding the regulations, effective July 1, 2000, permitting a waiver of the annual audit submission requirements for certain institutions that disburse less than $200,000 in Title IV funds each award year.  The regulatory criteria for applying for the waiver can be found in CFR 668.27,  published in the Federal Register on October 29, 1999 (see UHEAA Bulletin Volume 1999 - Issue 75).  The Dear Partner Letter provides instructions for requesting the waiver and summarizes key provisions of the regulations.  GEN-00-08 does not apply to the public and private, nonprofit institutions exempted from the annual audit requirements by OMB Circular A-113.
