Pilot Enrollment Process for Certain Lenders

The U.S. Department of Education (ED) recently released a Dear Colleague Letter (DCL), L-00-223, regarding a pilot program that affects the way certain lenders and lender servicers  process enrollment information obtained from the National Student Loan Data System (NSLDS).  As you know, NSLDS sends enrollment data collected from schools to guarantors on a weekly basis. Within 60 days, guarantors forward this enrollment information to lenders and lender servicers.  Under the pilot program, certain lenders and lender servicers will receive this weekly enrollment data directly from NSLDS instead of guarantors.  ED intends to make this pilot process permanent and offer it to other large lenders and lender servicers beginning later this year.  ED will inform guarantors of those lenders and lender servicers that receive information directly from NSLDS.  In addition, since much of the enrollment information NSLDS receives from schools simply confirms a previously reported status, NSLDS will offer to guarantors, lenders, and lender servicers the option of receiving only changed information.

A copy of this DCL can be found on ED's web site at http://ifap.ed.gov.  If you are unable to access this web site and would like a hard copy of the letter, please contact Stacey Roberts at (801) 321-7211.  Any questions related to this Bulletin should be directed to the UHEAA Policy and Training Department at (801) 321-7166 or by e-mail at cjudd@utahsbr.edu.
