Release of 1999 Cohort Default Rates
The U.S. Department of Education (ED) recently released the Fiscal Year (FY)1999 Official Cohort Default Rates. Schools may view these rates on ED's Default Management web site at http://www.ed.gov/offices/OSFAP/defaultmanagement/cdr.html. A cohort default rate is the percentage of a school's borrowers who enter repayment on certain Federal Family Education Loan (FFEL) Program loans during a particular Federal fiscal year (FY), October 1 to September 30, and default prior to the end of the next fiscal year. For a more in-depth description of cohort default rates and how these rates are calculated, please refer to ED's Cohort Default Rate Guide.
