Revised UHEAA Request for Forbearance Form

Attached is the revised Utah Higher Education Assistance Authority (UHEAA) Request for Forbearance form dated 10/2001 for immediate use. This form is to be used by borrowers to request a forbearance from a lender or servicer.  UHEAA has revised the form to advise borrowers that interest may be added to the unpaid principal balance of the loan no more frequently than quarterly and at the end of the forbearance.  Lenders may make additional copies of this form as needed.

The U. S. Department of Education encourages lenders to grant forbearances to help borrowers avoid default.  Before granting a forbearance, a lender must reasonably believe, and document, that the borrower intends to repay the loan but, due to a financial hardship, is currently unable to make scheduled payments.  A forbearance may be granted for a period of up to one year at a time.

Any questions related to this Bulletin should be directed to the UHEAA Policy and Training Department at (801) 321-7166 or by e-mail at cjudd@utahsbr.edu.
