National Guard and Reserves Called to Active Duty for the Olympics

    Utah Higher Education Assistance Authority (UHEAA) has recently received guidance from the U.S. Department of Education (ED) regarding borrowers who are members of the National Guard or Reserves and have been ordered to active military duty to serve during the 2002 Winter Olympics.  ED has clarified that such borrowers will qualify for the provisions of GEN-01-13 (see UHEAA Bulletin Volume 2001-Issue 47).

    GEN-01-13 provides guidance for schools, lenders, and guaranty agencies regarding the treatment of military personnel who are activated for a period of more than 30 days. This letter addresses the following:
