Approval of Loan Deferment Forms

 The U.S. Department of Education (ED) recently issued a Dear Colleague letter, GEN-02-08, announcing the approval of eight deferment forms pertaining to the Federal Family Education Loan Program (FFELP).  These forms must be used when providing deferment applications to borrowers on or after January 1, 2003. Other deferment applications may still be processed after that date, but all new applications sent to borrowers on or after January 1, 2003 must use the enclosed forms.  These forms are to be used to grant deferments for the following reasons:

    The revised forms are available as PDF attachments to this Bulletin as well as UHEAA's website at www.uheaa.org/forms.htm.  A copy of ED's letter and the revised deferment forms are also available on ED's website at http://www.ifap.ed.gov/dpcletters/GEN0208.html.  No changes to the forms are permitted unless expressly allowed by ED's instruction.  If you are unable to access ED's website and would like a hard copy of their letter please contact Stacey Fabros at 801.321.7211.
