Approval of Revised Unemployment Deferment and Economic Hardship Deferment Forms

    The U. S. Department of Education has approved new Unemployment Deferment and Economic Hardship Deferment forms which incorporate changes resulting from the final regulations issued November 1, 2002.  (See Dear Colleague Letter GEN-03-04 at http://ifap.ed.gov/dpcletters/GEN0304.html)

    The new regulations generally have a required implementation date of July 1, 2003.  However, because the current poverty level guidelines allowed on the new Economic Hardship Deferment form are more generous to borrowers, the Utah Higher Education Assistance Authority (UHEAA) encourages use of the new forms immediately.  New forms are available on UHEAA's website at www.uheaa.org.
