Spousal Consolidation Loans

Effective January 1, 2004 the Utah Higher Education Assistance Authority (UHEAA) will guarantee consolidation loans made jointly to a married couple.  This policy change eliminates the UHEAA exception listed in Appendix C of the Common Manual which references section 14.2 of the Common Manual.

As a reminder, married couples may consolidate their eligible loans jointly only if each borrower is eligible.  Further, each borrower must agree to be jointly and severally liable for the repayment of the loan, regardless of any change in marital status.  Deferments and forbearances are also granted only if both individuals simultaneously meet the requirements for receiving a deferment and/or forbearance.
