Requesting Approval to Make a Late Disbursement Beyond the 120-Day Period
The U.S. Department of Education recently released Dear Colleague Letter GEN-05-07 which explains the procedures for requesting approval to make a late disbursement of Title IV aid beyond the 120-day late disbursement period. These disbursements may be referred to as "late" late disbursements. Please see http://www.ifap.ed.gov/dpcletters/GEN0507.html for detailed information on submitting these requests to the Department.
The procedures described in this letter for submitting a request for approval to make a late disbursement beyond the 120-day period replace the procedures for submitting a request that are described in the 2004-2005 Federal Student Aid Handbook.
Please note that such requests may only be approved if the reason the late disbursement was not made within the 120-day period was not the fault of the student or parent. Schools should develop procedures that will enable them to identify, in a timely manner, disbursements that were not made during the scheduled award or loan period.
The DCL contains contact information for any questions related to late disbursements. Any questions related to this Bulletin should be directed to UHEAA Policy and Training at 801.321.7166 or by e-mail to mjohnson@utahsbr.edu.
