UHEAA Sponsors Successful Tax & Verification Workshop
Utah Higher Education Assistance Authority recently sponsored a very successful one-day training in taxes and verification. Hosted in Salt Lake City, the workshop was attended by over 150 financial aid office personnel from across the state, who had an interest in learning more about how tax returns can be used in verification of FAFSA reported information.
Jim Briggs, “the Tax Detective,” was the instructor. His session provided excellent training in how to read, understand, and use tax returns in the verification of FAFSA data and resolution of conflicting information. A former IRS agent and CPA, Mr. Briggs is a dynamic presenter who has been teaching financial aid professionals for over 25 years.
Said one participant, “It was great, entertaining, and informative. I learned a lot of useful info for processing.” Attendees represented every type of institution—Public 2-year and 4-year, private, and proprietary—and found the workshop to be “awesome,” “valuable,” and “wonderful.” How interesting and fun the topic of taxes and verification could be made was particularly appreciated by those in attendance.
UHEAA is committed to providing outstanding training opportunities for financial aid administrators and student loan professionals at no cost to participants. Look for announcements about further training opportunities in the coming months.
